It looks as if 2007 will be an interesting year for marijuana reform here in Maine. We now have our Lowest Law Enforcement Campaigns going in both Sumner and West Paris, and we are busy building winning coalitions in each town. If you want to volunteer your time to make these campaigns successful (or donate your money), we want to hear from you.

We have also introduced legislation to strengthen the current medical marijuana law in Maine, with significant improvements such as mandatory dispensaries, upping the allowable limits of marijuana that a patient may possess, and providing more protections for both patients and providers.

In April we will be hosting a two week tour with some folks from LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) who will be speaking at colleges, rotary clubs, church groups, radio stations, etc. in support of our work. If you have a good idea for a gig, please let us know.

In April we also hope to publish a comprehensive report on marijuana in Maine. This will include research, analysis, and commentary on a wide range of topics as they relate to marijuana reform including the economic and social costs of marijuana prohibition, a look at the criminal justice/civil rights end of the issue, along with other related angles.
