About the Maine Marijuana Project Initiative

The Maine Marijuana Policy Initiative was established in April, 2006. Our mission is to work with the people of Maine to change current policies on marijuana so that we may address:

a)      The need for qualified patients to have full access to medical marijuana including availability of marijuana at a system of dispensaries here in Maine.

b)      The failure of marijuana prohibition as a policy and the need to replace it with a system of tax and regulate where the revenue generated gets directed towards Community Supported Agricultural programs here in the state of Maine.

We believe that conditions are ideal in Maine to change the current failed policy and our recent success with YES on Question 5 backed this up strongly. It is estimated that 65% of Maine's citizens between ages 26-34 have used cannabis providing a level of familiarity with the issue for a large number of residents. It is our guess that approximately 95,000 – 150,000 Maine adults now use marijuana on a routine basis.

We call on citizens, businesses, organizations and leaders from all aspects of civil society to join us in calling for Maine Common Sense.
